Medical specialists in Faruk Medical City (FMC) succeeded in conducting an operation for a woman suffering from a complicated coronary disease, believed to be the first type of this operation experienced in Iraq.
Bahar Mahmud Muhammed, who had already another coronary bypass operation in an Asian country, was rushed to Faruk Medical City (FMC) on November 01, 2014. After she was diagnosed, Dr Jaffar Sadiq Shehetha, consultant cardiothoracic surgeon decided that the patient should undergo redo coronary bypass operation.
The delicate surgical operation, which took five hours, was coronary bypass operation for the second time. Dr Jaffar Sadiq Shehetha said: in fact, redo coronary bypass operation is a very complicated operation; this is the first time we are having this operation here. What is interesting is that this is the second procedure for the same patient, who had the first one in India. Mrs. Bahar was rushed to Faruk Medical City and after she was tested, we saw that her implanted coronaries were all blocked and her life was in danger. We had the redo coronary bypass operation for her and this is a big achievement, especially as we have been able to save her life and now she is in a good condition.
The patient thanked the (FMC) management at the level of services provided and the amount of care before and after the surgery and during her stay in Faruk Medical City. Bahar Mahmud Muhammed, speaking from her bed in (FMC), said: “I had a heart problem before, I went to India last year I had an operation but unfortunately was unsuccessful. Now, in Faruk Medical City, Dr Jaffar Shehetha conducted the operation for me and it is successful. Now in our country, we have a good hospital.
Concerning the requirements for the success of this complicated operation, Dr Jaffar Sadiq Shehetha said: the operation needs a qualified team, requires a hospital with high-quality, and advanced medical technology which are all properly provided in Faruk Medical City.
