The General Intensive Care Unit (GICU) of Faruk Medical City provides 24-hour intensive medical service open to all types of patients of various critical conditions. It is sought after by the region for its state of the art intensive care services through the use of advanced medical practice; use state of art equipment; and to top all – the availability of qualified and experienced Intensivists.
The services include all ages above 1 month old in general. The very vast scope of intensive care applies to all pediatric cases and from simple to complicated adult medical and surgical conditions that need intensive care. The unit likewise has post- operative Renal Transplant Intensive Care in which recipients of the procedure is directly admitted in the Renal Transplant ICU inside the GICU.
The nursing staff is multi-national who are fully qualified to practice Intensive Care Nursing. All staff are basically done with 5 years ICU practice before joining the FMC. The nursing staff are undergoing the continuous education program of the Nursing Services Department to ensure their competency while carrying out their duties.
The medical equipment in GICU defines quality advancement to accommodate the increasing demands of patients from time to time. Aside from the latest ventilators, cardiac monitors and basic critical care equipment, the unit is solely equipped with Hemofiltration/ continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) machines which is uniquely provided exclusively from FMC.
